Chapter Best Practices

New York
  • Committee members “plant” simple questions for Q&A so no one feels silly
  • The President of the chapter does administrative duties, then each of the 5 board members has to run an event during the year
  • Focus on new venues as a main attraction
  • Do not put company names on special guest badges so the buyers are not slammed
  • Partner with tradeshows

    Mexico

  • Partner with other associations
  • Focus on communication and education
  • Get government assistance and buy in
  • Implement internet courses -Record and sell for profit to the chapter
  • Communicate as much as possible on the internet
  • Post board member’s email addresses and numbers online
  • Create individual emails for each board member that correlate to the chapter name Skype
  • Partner with SITE Foundation for research
  • Take advantage of what you have (member’s resources, etc)

    Great Britain

  • Focus on education and current trends
  • Use “taboo” topics to draw and build attendance
  • Use word of mouth and press whenever possible
  • Have the board call people for the personal touch New members and attendees are always welcomed personally at events by BOD

    Germany

  • Get involved with local trade show (IMEX for Germany) and sponsor something. SITE Germany sponsors Member Reception at SITE booth during IMEX)
  • Education – focus on locals
  • Focus on students and young professionals
  • Articles in industry magazines
  • Partner with the SITE Foundatin
  • Have a new member goal each year- for SITE Germany in 2006 it’s 20

    Australia / NZ

  • Educate locals
  • Make hotels bring corporate attendees
  • Educate corporate attendees on why they should use SITE members to conduct business

    Finland

  • Personal phone calls
  • Try to partner with other SITE chapters for events
  • Use 3 educational programs in Finnish that they sell to bring in revenue
  • Spread meetings and events around geographically since the country is large
  • SITE Finland gets published regularly in a trade magazine where they get space to write what they want

    Arizona

  • Get buyer’s perspective when planning
  • Use incentive / buyer panels
  • Get people to speak from buyer’s perspective to their supplier heavy membership
  • Take advantage of SITE benefits and things SITE offers
  • Hot Times Event - Not a fam trip
    - An educational experience for buyers
    - Fully sponsored
    - Qualify the attendees
    - Members send a list of those they want to invite, they get invited and approved by the Board
    - Only SITE members can sponsor
    - Try to make it fair for all SITE members
    - Have 2 chair positions
    - Survey sponsors and buyers afterward

    Florida

  • Holds a 2-day event to accommodate distance of members
  • Starts on Sunday and ends on Monday so no one misses a full weekend or too much of the work week

    Canada

  • Market SITE on a national level to the local market
  • Showcase benefits of SITE, etc to local major incentive houses
  • Market CITE, IC, Crystals
  • Direct people to the web site – local and national
  • Partner with other associations

    So Cal

  • Work with students and local colleges – to help design classes, programs, speaking opportunities for board members
  • Students can attend a meeting for free, but must volunteer or assist with future events
  • Communicate electronically only
  • Get a website
    - If interested, their web coordinator can assist for a reduced fee
  • Offer new members deal to attend their first meeting for free
  • Select dates for yearly meetings early
  • Spread out meetings
